2020 Ford Escape
It’s no secret that compact crossovers are among the hottest selling vehicles on the Canadian market. With that in mind, Ford has changed its North American Escape for the 2020 model year with a dramatic new design that introduces a style unlike anything else in the rest of its range. Let’s take a look.
With a blend of style performance and flexibility, the all-new Escape will once again set a new standard for the small SUV segment. 4 powertrain options including an all-new hybrid and an entirely new plug-in hybrid, a sleek, sporty design, and innovative features like slotting second-row seats, a standard selectable drive mode system, and more technology than ever before separating the all-new Escape from every other obvious competitor in the market.
Ford says this is the best performing Escape ever offered. For the first time, Ford is offering Four powertrain options, each with its standout qualities. All four Target an EPA estimated a range of at least 650+ Kilometers per tank, meaning many fewer stops between the fill-ups and more leisure driving with your friends and loved ones.
The all-new hybrid Escape is poised to lead the segment with a targeted EPA estimated a range of at least 850+ Kilometers.
Mustang influenced its shield-shaped trapezoidal grille and its lower front end borrowed from none other than the Ford GT. The result is a vehicle that is unique to the Escape. Sleeker than ever before with a sloped roofline, optimize lift gay spoiler and Strake and efficient upper body, the all-new Escape is the most aerodynamic to date. Ford definitely wants you to know the Escape has unrivalled flexibility. Second row, not second class. A sliding second-row seat unique among small SUV entries allows rear-seat passengers to increase legroom, knee clearance, and footwell length for a more comfortable ride. With a second-row seat fully back, the gas engine powered Escape delivers best-in-class legroom to complement improvement to the headroom, Shoulder room, and hip room.
With the second-row seat in full for the position, the rear cargo area in the gasoline engine powered models extends nearly six inches to increase the cargo area to 37.7 cubic feet.
Speaking of cargo, it’s your cargo space, so you might as well use it. Driving a hybrid used to mean that you’d have to sacrifice cargo space, but Ford says – “Not any longer.” The hybrid battering the all-new Escape is packaged beneath the second-row seat, so the cargo area remains capable of hauling everyday items. The cargo area was specially designed so that the Escape can accommodate four sets of golf clubs up front and four sets of golf clubs in the back.
Wherever the road goes Ford wants to go with you with a selectable drive mode system that is standard across a lineup. It makes it easy for Escape owners to create the ride experience that they want or whatever the conditions demand.
The five-setting system includes drive modes for Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery, and Snow/Sand. When driving, hybrid drivers can get the most benefit from Escape’s hybrid engine and opt for hybrid drive modes Auto EV, EV Now, EV Later, and EV Charge.
With an all-new EV Charge mode, drivers can continue to charge the hybrid battery while driving but opt to save those electric-only miles for a later time.
The all-new Ford Escape 2020 comes with a turbocharged three-cylinder engine capable of delivering 180 HP and 177 lb-ft of torque. The higher-end model comes with a turbocharged 2.0 L four-cylinder engine capable of producing 250 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque.
With a pair of first in class available features like active park assistance, 2.0, and evasive steering assist, this vehicle introduces SUV drivers a new level of driving assistance technology. Active Park Assist 2.0 allows the driver to park any parallel or perpendicular location at the touch of a button without having to operate the shift lever, accelerator, or brake pedal.
Integrated Pedal evasive steering detects a slower or stationary vehicle in front and provides a driver’s assistance that can help the driver avoid an impending collision.
Moreover, The 2020 Ford Escape isn’t just trimmer than ever before but is also way stronger. It sheds more than 200 pounds from the current model due in part to the extensive use of high strength lightweight steel throughout the skeleton.
Ultra-high strength steel 3D rolled tubes run up each a pillar, and along the rooflines and high strength boron steel solidify as the subframe. Aluminum components such as hood and suspension link arms contribute also to the lower weight.
The Interior is mainly plastic, and by that, I mean it’s everywhere. Though it’s subtle look enhances the interior, the feel is relaxing. The seat, however, comes with cloth upholstery, but you obviously have the option to opt for the luxurious leather upholstery, further enhancing the look and feel of your new Ford Escape 2020.
The Titanium models are available with new heads up display – a Ford first in North America. The system projects information onto a 6-inch screen that protrudes from the dashboard and from the steering wheel, giving the drivers easy access to the information such as vehicle speed without taking their eyes off the road.
It also comes with loads of connectivity technology starting with the Ford Pass Connect, which is a standard feature capable of serving 4G LTE Wi-Fi for up to 10 mobile devices with a compatible wireless subscription service. The available 8-inch touchscreen mounted on the center stack uses capacitive glass for quicker, more responsive interaction with the available updated Sync 3 system while also offering compatibility with the available features such as Apple car play, Android Auto Waze navigation, and Alexa.
